Expanding Our View of Missions
Mircea Detesan
Scripture Reading:
Mircea Detesan
Under the brutal rule of Nicolae Ceaușescu, Romania’s communist regime (1965–1989) suppressed freedom through fear, violence, and informers—yet many Christians remained steadfast. Growing up with a communist father and a devoted Christian mother, Mircea Deteșan ultimately chose his mother’s faith, coming to Christ in 1978 after reading the Bible. Hungry for theological training despite heavy restrictions, he connected with Entrust (formerly BEEI), secretly helping facilitate courses and even teaching himself English to interpret for underground groups. In 1989, he was beaten and arrested for refusing to inform for the secret police and for preaching the gospel, but just six weeks later the regime fell. In 1990, Mircea helped establish Educație Biblică prin Extensie (EBE), a Romanian-based ministry modeled after Entrust to equip church leaders nationwide. Today, EBE continues training pastors and lay leaders across Romania, and Mircea serves as an assistant pastor, Pentecostal district vice president, mission agency leader, and director of EBE.
Mircea’s life and ministry demonstrate Entrust's guiding verse, 2 Tim. 2:2. And the things you (Mircea) have heard me (various Entrust staff members) say in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to reliable people (those in his church and students of EBE) who will also be qualified to teach others (men and women across Romania and around the world).
